The goal
Little Spark is a non-profit organization which is going to start its first project A Thousand Homes, A Thousand Schools in the summer of 2011. The goal is to provide poor, mostly illiterate children in India with basic education that will help them in their understanding of and interaction with their direct environment. Furthermore, this will increase their chances of getting a slightly better job in the future.

How it started
The project is inspired by Mala’s experiences. In 2010, like many Indian students, Mala had returned to India during an academic break. During her vacations she had the opportunity to work with a 9 year old girl named Kajol.

Student teachers
In order to reach out to as much children as possible, we need a lot of voluntary teachers. The more teachers we have, to more children we can help. As a teacher, you will teach a child that is working in your neighborhood – maybe even at your own home – for one hour a day, at least during the weekdays.
- You are a student or graduate
- You will be in India for at least 4 weeks in a row
- You are willing to spend one hour a day to teach
Education professionals
As someone who has worked with underprivileged children or with education in general, you can help us immensely. We are looking to put together a committee that can
- Construct lesson plans around the relevant tasks for the children
- Provide suggestions for the design and content of the audio/video tools
- Recommend textbooks and educational aids as well as potential suppliers
Corporate sponsors
In order to get the project off the ground, we will have to purchase tangible as well as intangible products and services, such as
- Educational materials
- Promotion & communication
- Web hosting
We would like to emphasize that we are not paid at all for any of our services, so that 100% of your donation is invested in the project, and thereby in the children’s education.
